Wendy Williams works with paper and recycled materials, finding the mediums useful for several reasons. It is easy to carry, manipulate, its form can be changed, printed on, cut, dissected, but most importantly – it is disposable.
Williams set up the group Soup Collective (SC) in 2001 whilst working at Tate Liverpool. The group consists of artists associated with the gallery. As a group, SC have exhibited at Tate during Liverpool Biennials, and at a range of exhibition spaces and galleries in between. In 2006, we began to collaborate with other groups, such as artists from the Walker gallery Liverpool and Peripheral from The Henry Moore Institute. 2011 saw the start of International collaborations, when invited to exhibit in Tromso, Norway. It was then decided to start a second division of SC to enable us to open up to other artists. Thus SCI was borne.
