  • Annabelle Richmond-Wright is an artist based in Leeds who works across sculpture, installation, performance, and multimedia. She graduated from Leeds Arts University in 2021 and later won the Manchester HOME Open award this year with her artwork, Alexa (2020). [pictured]

The processes, materials, and found objects she employs depend on the themes and ideas about the artwork, carefully considering the historical, symbolic, and material significance towards the context. Annabelle often likes to work intuitively and doesn’t always plan work as she finds the playfulness of making a spark for the most exciting ideas and decision making.

Embarking on fresh ideas, she is currently working on a new and personal body of work about women’s reproductive health. Annabelle also works as a creative wellbeing and engagement tutor, helping adults to improve their mental health challenges with creative projects.

Whether it is the controversial unwanted kiss of a male FA president planted upon a female sporting figure, or the litany of abuse from other males embedded in the power structure of our society, it is impossible to ignore the sweaty palmed grip of the patriarchy.

Annabelle Richmond-Wright is a recent graduate of Leeds Arts University who is now a resident of South Leeds. Utilising sculpture, installation, film and performance her art addresses issues around capitalism and technology as well as the more personal subject of reproductive health and rights for women.

Annabelle’s first solo exhibition post-graduation will include new artworks addressing contraception, trauma, the sacred space of online forums, and the power structures that attempt to keep women from having control and knowing the truth about their bodies and reproductive health.

This project will also create a public sculpture for Beeston, South Leeds. This will be created in collaboration with the community through workshops and a programme of engagement events. We aim to realise this part of the project between December 2024 and April 2025. More info on this aspect soon . . .

Lunchtime Conversation

Sunday 8th December | 12-2pm

I would just like to thank you for your invite and hospitality at the workshop/project with Annabelle Richmond-Wright. I really enjoyed the day with such a variety of people (I was the eldest at 69 I think so the views spanned decades and the conversation flowed. I found bits a bit gory but fully appreciated where she was coming from and her way of getting her feelings over to the people. All in all a really good experience that I would recommend to anybody. I love things like this that make us realise art isn’t just a nice picture of cows in a field. May I also take this opportunity to thank you for the change to your immediate area with the JACOBS LADDER sculpture That bit of land is now a welcoming and inviting part of South Leeds and being able to watch the artist while it was being finished made all us passers by feel part of it.
Thank you again.
