Degrees of Separation

Essay: Bruce Davies

Paradise Works. East Philip Street, Salford, Manchester M3 7LE

As part of the Paradise Works Open Studios event, The Metaphorical Basement will present a forensic reconstruction of a Leeds basement from fragments of past exhibitions.

Using methods associated with an archeological dig, this exhibition will collapse the layers of history through preserved fragments. Removed from their original site, The Metaphorical Basement condenses and presents a story constructed over twelve years.

For one weekend the Studio of Jeffrey Knopf will become a ghostly footprint of BasementArtsProject’s twelve year history with some specially commissioned new works and collaborations amongst the rescued artefacts.
