LOCKDOWN JOURNAL: COVID-19.28 (Khansa Khadim)
Khansa Khadim is a neo-abstract figurative painter and graduate of Salford University.
After taking a decade off from making work I have returned to art. Based in Halifax my work is in oils, thickened to get the mark I chase. It's on wooden boards, alongside them are my doodles. I was due to exhibit at Dean Clough Art gallery this summer but that has now been postponed.
The following is a visual diary, using my own visual language.
The follwing is a visual diary, using my own visual language.
The first painting is the affect of corona virus.
The confinement with teardrop motif surronded by bricks, the bricks have tear drops and the virus in them.
The deaths of greatgrandparents in Spanish flu and the people we have lost now
How people spend times in there homes, all the love between families Homeschooling
How at the begining of the outbreak there was was confusion, to me atleast it felt like the blind were leading the blind, and money was at the root of it.
How our local shops raised the price for rice and the anxiety around toilet paper.
The centre has the virus and how were all bound by the virus, I used chains as in locked in.
Coming out of the teardrop(sadness) hope springs out, and tiny hearts all the love connections
At the time of finishing the painting, I thought that was that.
However a few more people we know died, my anxious mother made even me upset, hence why hope and love painting came out:Its a heart motif that's made up of leaves, nature represents life.
The outside of the heart has heart shapes on one side and seeds on one side, that are encased in bubbles, at times like these love needs protecting.
Inside the heart there are lungs, prior to this I had worked with lungs and how it connects all people, with out air we would not exist.
There are four hearts inside, that all are tied by the bonds that bind us.
Internet and phone connections, my recent birthday was celebrated like this.
The NHS, carers, shoppers and supermarket workers The parents who are seperated and have so much strength in doing this on there (sic) own, my own friends included.
A day in my life with my children, bathtime nail cutting playing and learning.
