Lockdown Journal: Dortmund Edition [Adekola]

We have a number of projects that have carried over from 2020, and have gradually been pushed further and further back thanks to the pandemic and attendant lockdowns. Sometimes, the programme seems as though it has been pushed so far back that is a mere speck in the distance, but I can assure you that we are working on making sure that everything we promised will happen and a whole lot more in the process.

Yesterday in a special edition of the Lockdown Journal, we updated you on the status of the ‘Compressed Time Frames’ exhibition by ArtCouple, and today I bring you some material by Adekola, poet and founder of the Black led and Leeds based poetry collective ‘Say It. With Your Chest’. We hope to be working with Adekola in the very near future, watch this space.

Meanwhile preparations for the ‘Meine Welt Auf Corona’ exhibition at the Torhaus in Dortmund continue . . .

Nigressence

Nigrescence is the breakthrough debut collection of poems by northern poet Abdullah Adekola. The word 'nigrescence' means to develop a racial identity which Adekola unpicks through language that tugs and pulls through his own blackness, searching for ways to heal in an increasingly fractured world.
